Authentic Japanese Matcha Green Tea

Matcha has been consumed in Japan for almost 1000 years, traditionally reserved for royalty, religious dignitaries and spiritual luminaries. Matcha growth and production is a very complex and refined process, specific to the country of Japan. Matcha leaves are handpicked, and only the youngest, tenderest leaves at the tip of the tea plant are harvested. The plants are carefully shade grown for several months prior to picking, in order to boost chlorophyll content. These precious, extremely green leaves are then inspected, lightly steamed to halt any enzymatic breakdown, and ground to an ultra-fine powder on traditional stone grinders.

Matcha is simple to mix and store, and there are virtually no contra-indications. Matcha Green Tea is non-addictive and there are no known “withdrawal” effects.
All grades of ZenMatcha tea are equally nutritious and tasty.  The slight variations in color and taste are due to the size and age of leaves that are picked for each grade.

Our Product Grades

The "premium" ZenMatcha is made from the very youngest, best leaves on the tea plant, and ground to the finest consistency resulting in an extremely green, sweet taste.  This grade also contains the highest amount of l-theanine, the substance known to induce relaxation and calmness.

The "drinking" ZenMatcha is made from slightly older, larger leaves on the tea plant and the grind is slightly larger than the “premium’, resulting in a fuller feeling in the mouth when consumed.  This grade is excellent value, and has a wonderful green, sweet characteristic.  This “dirnking” grade also contains slightly more EGCG and other anti-oxidant catechins thant the “premium” grade.

The "mixing" ZenMatcha is made from even larger leaves than the “drinking” ZenMatcha, and is perfect for smoothies, cooking, face masks etc.  This grade of matcha still retains a lovely green color, and contains comparable amounts of both l-theanine and the anti-oxidant tea catechins.  This grade is an excellent value.
